Awash Bank, the first and pioneering private financial institution in Ethiopia, has signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Mastercard, the leading global technology company in the payments industry. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s financial landscape.
During the signing ceremony, Mr. Kefyalew Shiferaw, Chief Digital Banking Officer of Awash Bank, described the agreement as a way to strengthen their relationship, build on shared ambitions, and foster mutual trust and commitment to advancing Ethiopia’s digital payment ecosystem.
Mr. Shehryar Bakkht Ali, Senior Vice President and Country Manager of MasterCard in East Africa and Indian Ocean Island emphasized that Awash Bank is a key strategic partner for Mastercard not only in Ethiopia, but also in east Africa.
